Chris Hollar

Christopher Hollar is the Director of Jazz and Athletic Bands at Texas A&M University. This title includes directing the University Jazz Ensembles and the Hullabaloo athletic band. In addition Mr. Hollar also serves as a percussion coordinator for the University Concert Bands and as faculty advisor to Percussion Studio.

Mr. Hollar holds a Bachelor of Music Performance in Studio Music and Jazz from the University of Tennessee and was a recipient of the Bill Harmes Jazz Percussion Scholarship. During his time at Tennessee, he was awarded a graduate teaching assistantship and served as concert and marching percussion coordinator for the University of Tennessee Bands while earning his Master of Music in Jazz Studies.

Prior to his appointment at Texas A&M, Mr. Hollar taught applied percussion at Maryville College in Tennessee and was percussion instructor at Mars Hill College in North Carolina. He has taught in the Tennessee public schools at Anderson County High School.

Hollar is an accomplished jazz and studio drummer from Knoxville and the East Tennessee area. He maintained a very active professional playing and teaching career while in Tennessee and is a former member of the Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps.

Mr. Hollar maintains professional memberships with the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Band Masters Association, the Percussive Arts Society and the International Association of Jazz Educators.
